Galway Wants Water

Home arrow Petition

Petition

We, the people of Galway strongly object to the position we’ve been put in with regards to our water supply.

We call on the Government, both local and national, to sort this problem out as quickly as possibly by providing a long-term solution to the water contamination.

We are proud of our city and county and we want to show the country, Europe and the world that we can lead the way in providing a clean environment and safe drinking water supply for our citizens.

Visited Galway for weekend & although we were very careful not to drink the water still had an upset stomach. Is it sufficient to just boil water in a kettle? The centre for disease and control (CDC) website in America recommends to boil water for at least 1 min and up to 3 mins if the risk is very high.

Cathal    03 July 2007 16:58 | Galway
Why the hell are we still paying VAT on water? Surely that should have come in once they found the water was contaminated? I mean we pay the government a load of taxes for the upkeep of these services and now they have fecked it up. They have neglected the water supply in galway (and probably the rest of Ireland too), polluted it by not putting the proper restrictions on buildings and septic tanks (im sure bertie has a few building friends :p ) and now we are still paying for it?

Its time to cop on, and take control of our wasteful government.

I am out of the county for some time but i visited my mam there and foolishly brushed my teeth with the tap water. I got away with it but the anxiety was horrid. What a local, regional and national disgrace...

this is a national disgrace. with an election imminent the people of galway have a chance to show their disgust with the governments handling of this crisis. however all people seem to care about is stamp duty and house prices and not the efficient running of essential services.

This shouldn't happen anywhere, much less a country with (usually) such a standard of living as Ireland.

Wow! This really sucks. It's really sad. What about all the babies and animals! All the little puppies and stuff is going to need water to survive. This saddens my heart. If i could do it, I'd send everyone with pets and babies water.

I cannot believe this matter has not been resolved. Regardless of the effect this will have on tourism to the area, the fact that Irish citizens in a still find themselves boiling or buying water on a scale like this really is outrageous. This would simply not happen in Dublin and I cannot understand why every last effort is being made to support the residents while the larger problem is dealt with. If its army water trucks needed on the streets, please let it be. PS. Niall Ó Brolcháin please stop making this an election issue. You are the mayor and you should have taken steps to resolve this on your watch instead of having one eye on your own election asspirations. Fingerpointing is no use - Get it done!!!
